On November 24, 2025, the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Wage and Hour Division announced that a federal investigation in Riverside, California, found that the owner of a Southern California towing company called Quality Roadside Service Inc., also known as Liberty Towing Inc., failed to pay overtime wages to 32 workers. The government recovered a total of $218,983 in back pay for the 32 employees.
The DOL also claimed that the employer paid workers their normal hourly rate even when they worked more than 40 hours in a week. This violates federal overtime laws. The company also failed to maintain accurate employee records, violating recordkeeping rules.
“Employers must pay workers all the wages they earn,” said Assistant District Director Skarleth Kozlo in West Covina, California. “Federal law protects workers, and our agency works hard to enforce those laws.” The DOL also issued $11,264 in civil penalties because the violations were considered intentional. Kozlo added, “This case should remind employers that there can be serious and costly consequences when they don’t pay workers fairly.”
