Employers are not allowed to withhold or deduct money from employees' wages or require any job applicant to pay any fee or cost for any pre-employment medical or physical examination required as a condition of employment for the employer.
However, the majority view is that employers may require only a job applicant to pay for a medical or physical examination if the examination is required by law for some reason. An employer cannot require a current employee to pay the costs for a medical or physical examination under any circumstances, regardless of whether the examination is required by law, the employer, or both.
