California Labor Commissioner’s Office Reached A $2 Million Settlement With A Fresno Restaurant

On March 26, 2024, the California Labor Commissioner’s Office announced it reached a $2 million settlement against Pearl B-Star, Inc. DBA Lin’s Fusion and collected wages owed to 32 restaurant employees in Fresno, California, whom the employer failed to pay for all hours they worked over a three-year period.

Allegedly, Pearl B-Star, Inc. violated California’s laws on keeping records, tracking time, and providing compliant wage statements.  Many of the employees were immigrants who only got paid a cash salary.  As a result, the employees allegedly did not receive overtime, split shift, missed meal periods, and contract wages.

California’s laws protect all workers, no matter their immigration status.  Everyone has the right to be paid at least the applicable legal minimum wage unless employers identify a specific exemption.  Workers should not feel afraid to come forward with any wage theft allegations.
