Can My Employer Force Me Sign A Waiver From Disclosing Working Conditions?

Employers cannot legally stop employees from sharing information about working conditions. For example, employers cannot tell employees to keep quiet about unlawful conditions like sex harassment in the workplace or unpaid overtime. Also, employers cannot force workers to sign something that says they won’t talk about the employers’ working conditions.

If an employee shares information about the working conditions or what it’s like to work at their job, the employer cannot punish them. This means the employer can’t fire, discipline, or treat them unfairly just because they shared the information.

However, there are some limits. Employees are not allowed to share certain types of information without permission. This includes things like trade secrets or any other special information that the law protects. These are important to keep private because they could harm the company if shared. Also, employees should not expect to have legal protection if they publish negative opinions or untrue things about employers’ working conditions.
