On January 1, 2024, the minimum wage rate in the City of Sonoma increased to $17.60 per hour for employers with 26 or more employees and $16.56 per hour for employers with 25 or fewer employees. These rates apply to nonexempt employees who perform work within the geographic boundaries of the City of Sonoma.
These rates are higher than the current minimum wage rate set by the State of California. If this sounds confusing, it’s because there may be overlapping minimum wage protections at the city, county, state, and federal level. But usually, the most protective minimum wage law for employees applies. As a result, the highest overlapping hourly minimum wage rate applies.
