On October 04, 2023, Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 616, which guarantees workers at least five paid sick days per year. As Governor Gavin Newsom said, “Too many folks are still having to choose between skipping a day's pay and taking care of themselves or their family members when they get sick”. With the paid sick days increasing from 3 days to five, many Californian workers won’t need to come to work sick in order to not have to sacrifice a day of pay. This new law goes into effect January 1, 2024.
