On January 1, 2024, the City of Oakland increased its minimum wage to $16.50 per hour. Hotel employee minimum wage increased even higher! It increased to $17.94 per hour with Health Benefits and $23.91 per hour without Health Benefits for hotel employees. These rates apply only to work performed within the geographic boundaries of the City of Oakland.
Other geographic boundaries may have their own different minimum wage laws like across the Bay in the City of San Francisco. There also may be overlapping minimum wage protections at county, state, and federal level. Generally, the highest applicable hourly rate applies, regardless of the level of government that provides the protection.
