Can My Employer Fire Me For Updating My Personal Information?

Employers are not allowed to fire, discriminate against, retaliate against, or take any bad actions against employees just because the employees want to change or has changed their personal information. This includes making a legal change to their name, social security number, or federal employment authorization document. These rules protect employees and ensure that they can update their personal information without fear of losing their job or facing unfair treatment at work. It's important for employers to respect their employees' rights to make changes to their personal information as needed, without facing negative consequences as a result.

Probably the most common example would be when employees get married and legally change their last name.
