U.S. Department of Labor Recovers $1.1 Million for Unpaid Overtime From Los Angeles Garment Contractor

On July 16, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor announced it recovered over $1.1 million in back wages and damages from Good Cash LLC and related entities, operators of a Los Angeles garment contractor, for intentionally withholding overtime pay from 165 employees. The Department also alleged the employers falsified pay records, issued fraudulent checks, and attempted to interfere with investigators by pretending to be affected workers.

The Wage and Hour Division of the Department has already returned almost two-thirds of the recovered money to the employees. However, the Division is still actively working to identify and locate the remaining workers to distribute their portion of the back wages and damages.

The recovery of back wages and damages was achieved through a legal settlement called a consent judgment in December 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
